Are you aged between 14 and 19, and in education in Essex? Do you think of yourself as a budding Spielburg, Scorsese or even Kurosawa? Can you create an original film which highlights the effects of underage alcohol misuse? If the answer is yes then we need you to..
'Consider the Consequences..'
Alcohelp and Trading Standards are running a short film competition for local students between the ages of 14 and 19. You have the opportunity to win a great prize, as well as media equipment for your school or college. In addition, the top five entries will be shown at a special public screening where the winner will be announced. We are asking you to produce a 3-10min film that raises awareness of the dangers surrounding alcohol consumption at a young age. We would also like you to target your film towards an audience of 13 year olds. Your film can take any form and be in any genre e.g. fiction, animation, documentary, experimental, music video etc. just as long as your message is clear. If you don't know your film noir from your American blockbuster don't worry, ANYONE can make a film - all you need is a camera and bags of creative energy. We are looking for innovative films by young people, for young people, which capture the imagination, inspire change and, most importantly, allow for discussion around underage experimentation with alcohol. You don't need to spend a lot of money in order to create a film with style - get inventive! Make your own props and costumes, use local locations, rope in friends, family, even your teachers to 'act' in your film (just make sure you get their permission first!).
Topics could include one or more of the following: Peer pressure Anti-social behaviour and crime Violence The consequences of adults buying alcohol for young people Access to alcohol in the home Long-term health problems (both physical and psychological) Vulnerability and safety Teen pregnancy Truancy or expulsion from school Binge Drinking
