What we would like to see..

At the Crucial Crew  sessions we asked the children

" What's it like and how do you feel when you're around someone who's been drinking?"
NOT ONE single child , out of EIGHT THOUSAND asked , gave a positive answer !

They said ..

Annoyed.

Uncomfortable.

You can't ask them for a serious opinion..they can't give it to you.

They talk rubbish.

Sometimes they have unprotected sex.

Frightened.

Uncertain.

If I'm out I worry how I'm getting home.

Unsafe.

They make "unsensible" decisions.

Unsafe 'cos you don't know what they're going to do.

I feel like the only sensible one left when adults drink.

Wary.

I just want to walk away.

They're stupid.

I feel like the only normal one.

Sometimes they might attack me and not know it.

Unhappy.

They try to get you to drink.

They don't care about what you think.

They smell of puke and sick.

Very Unsafe.

Left out.

I feel in charge.

Proud that I haven't done it (drink).

Unlucky.

They might get violent.

They say stupid things and don't remember.

My dad gives me money when he's drunk..other times he says "No".

When we asked: "What's it like and how do you feel when you're around someone who's been drinking?"
they said..

Ashamed 'cause they drink too much

Their teeth are damaged & rotten

It makes people feel indestructible when they're at their most vulnerable

My brother & I have a plan to stop my dad drinking..he goes to the pub after he & mum fight

My step-dad was drunk & being sick. Mum had to clean out the sick from his throat with her two fingers so he didn't choke while he was in bed

If you drink a lot you hallucinate

My dad pats me on the head when I go to bed but when he's drunk he slaps my face

When my mum drinks and I ask her for pancakes for dinner she says "I'm not making you f...ing pancakes". But when she's not drinking she makes me pancakes

It's stupid.. people are stupid who do that

My mum won't let us go to my dads because he drinks..and I hate it beause he can't protect us

We had to go and get dad out of the bar

When my mum drinks she whacks the kitchen cupboards and makes my (4 yo) sister cry

I hate the way my dad smells when he comes home from the pub. When he smells bad like that I know he's done really bad things

People who drink have bags under their eyes and their nose is all big and really red

My older sister trips up the stairs when she comes home and uses bad language
