The Trustees

dividing line

The trustees of Alcohelp all have first-hand experience, sometimes tragic, of alcohol abuse and addiction. Together, they are working hard with the local police, councils and other charities to engage with young people face-to-face, to raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol.

As trained professionals who have already worked with over 50,000 young people across Essex, they are able to interact with and leave a lasting impression on young people.

Terry

dividing line
Terry

Terry, is an Accountant, an Addictions  and CBT Counsellor and until recently Chair of Governors at Felsted Primary School.

Terry knows about the pain alcohol abuse can cause all too well. He set up alcoHELP back in 2004 with Debby and Nigel, who also have personal experiences with alcohol abuse.

As a trained CBT Counsellor and Addictions Counsellor at The Priory, Terry is not only able to lend a compassionate ear, he has a lot of experience in helping those directly or indirectly affected by alcohol abuse.

Despite suffering a brain haemorrhage back in 1996, Terry continues to pursue one of his prime passions in life, long distance biking. This has taken him across the World raising thousands of pounds for alcoHELP in the process.

As well as being fully CRB checked, Terry has a great rapport with young people and understands the pressures today’s youth face. As such, he is delighted every time a school requests to participate in one of alcoHELP’s programmes.

Debby

dividing line
Debby

Debby, is a teacher, author and counsellor with 30 years’ experience

Debby has worked in education for over 30 years, primarily supporting children with special needs and learning difficulties. Spending the majority of her teaching career in New York, where she was promoted to Principal of a Primary School, Debby then moved to the UK in 1988 where she married her husband Keith. Here she taught reception age children at a primary school in Essex and specialised in teaching children with speech and language difficulties.

Having suffered personally from the devastating effects of alcoholism, Debby now combines her love for education with informing young people on the dangers of alcohol. She has now delivered programmes to over 50,000 school children in Essex and is just about to publish the UK’s only primary school aged story book that directly addresses alcohol in the home.

Nigel

dividing line
Nigel

Nigel, is a Financial Compliance Director and our Fundraising Manager.

Nigel works full time in the City as a Financial Compliance Director and uses his expertise in all financial matters in an advisory capacity to alcoHELP.

alcoHELP remains close to Nigel's heart as he founded the charity with Terry Martin following their time in rehab together. Whilst his current work commitments mean he is acting more in an advisory role, he plans to be 'back on the road' with alcoHELP in the not so distant future.
