Read what they said..

There is a  the need to "educate fathers, mothers and other role models about the profound impact their drinking behavior can have on their children."

The sad fact is that 47% (nearly half) of children who start to drink before the age of 14 will  have a drink problem and become alcohol dependent at some point in their life. The alcohelp programme is designed to provide information to ten and eleven year olds. Working with Crucial Crew enables us to do this.

It's time to stop treating alcohol as just another thing on the grocery shelf. It's not – it's a drug.

Early 2010
For the first time we did some presentations and workshops for year 11's these were held at St Martin's School in Brentwood and at Davenant Foundation School in Loughton. These were a huge success and we have already been approached to do the same with 2011 year 11's.  For year 9's we took our Reality Roadshow  workshops to Maltings Academy and Honywood School in Coggeshall.

We had meetings during March 2010 with Trading Standards, EDAAT snd Essex Police to discuss the way forward with plans to introduce our "Consider the Consequences" DVD and accompanying workbooks into all Essex secondary schools. This project is set to happen at the end of 2010

During 2009
Epping Forest District Council held their pilot Reality Roadshow  at St John's School in Epping. alcoHELP was  thrilled to be asked to be part of this important event and it was an overwhelming success. The year 9 students (13 and 14 year olds) were rivetted during our 2Brite2Binge set ! The serious, hard-hitting images, videos and dialogue which we deliver were certainly taken on board by the students. This was confirmed during the evaluation at the end of the day when over 50% confirmed they had learned a great deal from the presentation ! The pilot was sucessful and we then did Reality Roadshow  workshops at several other schoold during the year.

Braintree District Council's  Reality Roadshow  took place at various schools in the district during October 2009, These included Alec Hunter, Hedingham School, Tabor Science College, Halstead's Rmsey School and Witham's Rickstones Academy.

Chelmsford's Reality Roadshow  was held at Hylands Housee during November 2009 and alcoHELP ran workshops alongside Essex Police, Essex Fire Service, EYPDAS and Mis Essex NHS

2008/2009
alcoHELP has ben commissioned by Brentwood District Council & SW Essex Primary Care Trust to produce a resource for year 9 teachers and pupils in Brentwood  secondary schools. Designed to be incorporated into the PSHE and science curriculum the rescore will consist of an audio visual DVD presentation focusing on the health risks associated with the effects of  alcohol on children. In particular we will highlight the damage that alcohol inflicts on internal organs, especially the brain,  and the behavioral changes in mood and actions that occur. Complementing the DVD will be a teachers workpack enabling them to discuss and explore the issues raised. We see this as a huge breakthrough in delivery of the important messages we feel children need to know regarding alcohol and hope this resource will eventually extend into other Essex districts and, in the longer term, on a national basis.

4th December 2008

Terry gave an interview on "Breakfast on BBC Essex"  During "Planet Ray" he talked  about the recent Reality Roadshow in the Braintree District at which alcoHELP did their 2Brite2Binge  workshop. He focussed on what danger alcohol does to teenage brains and other organs and gave some startling facts about the number of 13 & 14 year olds who drink regularly !

October/November '08.
alcoHELP was, for the first time, invited to participate in Braintree District Council's  Reality Roadshow  We presented our  2Brite2Binge workshop to over 2,000 year nine schoolchildren  at Secondary Schools in the district. We worked working alongside The NHS, Essex Police, the Fire and Rescue Services, The Anti- Social Behavior team at BDC and The Drugs Advisory Service. We were excited by this and  really grateful to have been given the opportunity of giving our hard-hitting  presentation. We featured our renowned "Beer Goggles" during the sets to lighten- up what was an education about the effects of alcohol on outside looks, inside workings and the unpredictable and sometimes tragic behaviour brought about by binge drinking and more serious alcohol abuse.

7th-15th July 2008.
In response to the wishes of the schoolchildren, alcoHELP  again worked with Brentwood District Council's  Crucial Crew to present our alcohol awareness workshop to approximately 800 year six schoolchilden  at Brentwood Preparatory School. We continued our focus on "Saying No" to peer pressure when the children start out on their scondary school careers. We also allowed  them to experience the effects of sensory impairment with our renowned "beer goggles!"

7th-21st July 2008
alcoHELP worked alongside Braintree District Council at  Crucial Crew  presenting our alcohol awareness workshop to approximately 1,600 year six schoolchilden  at Braintree College. This year's focus was  "Saying No" to peer pressure in secondary school. The children also sampled  the effects of sensory impairment with our renowned "beer goggles!"

Debby & Terry were on BBC Essex "Dave Monk Show" live on this Thursday morning ( 12th June) alcoHELP had been invited on to talk about our work especially in the wake of an article in "The Times" by Caitlin Moran who's idea of curtailing binge drinking is to "make people drink much much more!! "

Towards the end of January 2007..
alcoHELP was at Hogarth Primary School in Brentwood. Our lecture focussed on what
the children already know about alcohol. How alcohol affects our behaviour. Interactive videos
highlighting the differences between someone who has been drinking and driving and someone
who has not been drinking. We finished up with each child having the opportunity to try out our
"beer goggles" which give the feeling of being drunk without actually taking in any alcohol!
