ALCOTEENS - planning starts for new Support Group initiative

28 May 2012

Although currently still in the initial proposal stage, it is hoped the service, which will be piloted in two Essex schools, will be delivered by child therapists and counsellors during school time. This is particularly powerful given the fact that those children and young people most in need of help are invariably part of a system that makes it impossible for them to air their concerns for fear of being ridiculed or bullied by their peers or family.

Terry Martin, trustee of alcoHELP comments:

"There is understandably a lot of work for us to do in terms of finalising plans on exactly how the initiative will be delivered and in the coming months we will be working directly with key stakeholders to determine this.

"This is a very exciting idea and as far as I am aware there is nothing else quite like it in terms of a support service for young people, yet the problem of young people drinking alcohol  and the effect this has on others is increasing at an alarming rate - not just in Essex but everywhere."
