alcoHELP to use Chairman’s donation to replace lost services in Braintree

Essex alcohol education charity alcoHELP will be using a £2,000 donation from the Braintree District Council Chairman’s charity, to replace lost services for children and young people in the area.
alcoHELP were one of the three charities selected by Cllr Wendy Scattergood, who has just completed her term of office as Chairman of Braintree District Council. alcoHELP, along with Halstead and Colne Valley Scouts and Safer Places, each received a cheque for £2,010.
Terry Martin, trustee of alcoHELP, said: “This donation from the Chairman is very well received by alcoHELP and will make a big difference to the work we can do.
“Unfortunately Crucial Crew and Reality Roadshow (national safety and education schemes for Year 6 and Year 9 Pupils respectively – which alcoHELP deliver the alcohol and substance awareness element of in Essex) are not currently being funded in the Braintree area.
“Braintree district was one of the first areas that alcoHELP started working with when we began our alcohol education programme 10 years ago.
“We have earmarked this donation to be used towards a real push to reach as many children as possible in the Braintree District, and hope to see Crucial Crew and Reality Roadshow reinstated in the future.
“In fact we have already booked in an alcohol awareness workshop at Honywood Community Science School next month, which we will deliver to the school for free, funded by the Chairman’s donation.”
alcoHELP’s Choices for Life alcohol awareness programme aims to help children and young people better understand the dangers of alcohol, through education on how harmful the drug can be.
Studies show that better-informed children and young people make safer decisions, and this impacts on their quality of life, health and well-being. Making better choices about alcohol means that they are less likely to be involved in accidents, have health issues and miss school or college.
Any schools in the Braintree District Council area who are interested in alcoHELP delivering an alcohol education session at their school, should contact them via www.alcohelp.com.
