New Year Cheer for alcoHELP

04 May 2012
It’s a jolly start to the New Year for alcoHELP as the charity is awarded £9,950 from the Big Lottery Fund.
BIG’s Awards for All programme has awarded the grants, which range in size from £1,634 to £10,000, to a variety of community groups to get their projects off to a cracking start for the year ahead.
With the temptation to over indulge in festive cheer always a possibility at this time of year, there couldn't be a more apt time for alcoHELP to be awarded the funding as the charity aims to educate young people about the dangers and associated risks of binge drinking.
The money is specifically going to be used on extending the reach of the 2Brite2Binge road show to youth centres and sports clubs across Essex, reaching around 10,000 young people throughout 2012.
Terry Martin, Trustee of Alcohelp, said: “We want our children and young people to understand the risks associated with alcohol abuse so that they can make informed decisions based on evidence and facts. We want to change how they learn about alcohol, not just from friends at school, by watching older siblings or parents, or by experimenting as a result of peer pressure, so that they are ultimately able to enjoy better health and a better quality of life and able to make a full and valued contribution to the life of the community.”
