There’s still time to sign up as an alcoHELP volunteer

03 July 2013
The charity has already had a positive response to their appeal for volunteers, but there is still time for people to register their interest. AlcoHELP teaches children about the dangers of alcohol by using workshops and events in schools to highlight that alcohol is a drug, and the dangers that come with that title.
The charity is appealing for volunteers who can tell their own story as well as work on new and existing alcoHELP projects.
Terry Martin, co-founder of alcoHELP, said: “The response we have already had has been brilliant, however we feel that the more applicants we get, the better service we can provide. Volunteers are a crucial part of reaching more children, and in return we offer a sense of achievement and doing something positive.”
A variety of volunteer positions are available including presenting to children in schools, answering the telephone help-line, general administrative jobs, coordinating and logistical roles such as drivers. More information on the charity and the roles available can be found at www.alcohelp.com/volunteers. The deadline for applications is Friday 12th July.
Set up by individuals with experience of problems relating to alcohol, alcoHELP has delivered its programme to just over 50,000 school-aged pupils over the past 6 years. With 4% of boys under 11 claiming to be drinking alcohol at least once a week the need for more volunteers to help to educate children is growing.
